Description

Course Description:

Welcome to an exciting year in 6th grade! As many of you already know, Illinois has adopted the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). There are many exciting changes happening here at Mollison IB Middle School. We, at Mollison, are preparing our students for high school, college and a global economy in many different ways. . We will use math textbook ENVISION Math for 6th grade.

In general, success in mathematics is essential for students facing rigorous coursework in college, career challenges, and global competitiveness. But success can no longer be determined solely by a students’ performance on a math assessment. Students need to develop the thinking and reasoning habits that will empower them to reach full potential in their lives at school and in their career paths. While only some students will pursue further math educations or careers in math and science, all students will benefit from learning to analyze problems independently and to solve them in different applications. They will need those abilities to lead successful lives as citizens and as leaders of the 21st century. (Borrowed from Prentice Hall Algebra I Foundations, 2011.)
